Bulls Stumble In 101-95 Loss To Wizards

One of the biggest reasons why the Chicago Bulls have frustrated me to no end this season is the number of games they lose to teams they should beat. Let's take the Washington Wizards for example. Both Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler were dealt prior to the trade deadline and the Gilbert Arenas is suspended for the rest of the season. While no game on the schedule should be taken for granted, I definitely felt this was a game the Bulls were capable of winning. Apparently, I was sadly mistaken.

The Bulls had a awesome first half as they staked out to a comfortable 56-46 lead and connected on over 50% of their field goal attempts. Good teams tend to not let off the accelerator when they have an opponent down. However, the Bulls came out flat in the third quarter going scoreless for what seemed like an eternity while only managing a meager 2 points at the five minute mark. The Wizards would capitalize outscoring Chicago 31-16 and erasing the halftime deficit with a 77-72 lead of their own heading into the final period.

Things only got worse for Chicago in the fourth as the Wizards expanded their lead to 93-80. While the Bulls did manage to cut the deficit the 96-95 with less than two minutes remaining, that would be a close as Chicago would misfire on their next few possessions down the stretch and the hapless Wizards would win the game 101-95. I know the Bulls won't win every game but this was one they let get away and as Vinny Del Negro put it "they now have to get back to basics" which includes finishing off teams once you get them down early.
